Become a Stallholder

The History of the Braderie
A tradition several centuries old, from a medieval fair to Europe's largest flea market.
Medieval origins
The first mention of the Braderie dates back to the 12th century. Servants and valets were permitted to resell their masters' used belongings once a year, during the Lille fair.
The "Franche Foire"
The Braderie was officially established under the name "Franche Foire" (Free Fair). Merchants were exempt from taxes for the duration of the event, attracting traders and onlookers from across the region.
Popular rise
The Braderie became a major popular event. The word "braderie" comes from the Flemish "bradden" meaning "to roast", in reference to the grilled meats sold in the streets. Moules-frites became the associated culinary tradition.
International reach
The Lille Braderie became Europe's largest flea market. It now attracts visitors from across France, Belgium, the Netherlands, England and beyond.
Recent editions
After cancellations due to the health crisis (2020-2021), the Braderie returned in full force with highly successful editions in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025, confirming the enduring popularity of this unique event.

Make the most of your Lille Braderie experience with these expert tips.
Arrive early in the morning
The best bargains are found from the 6am opening. Experienced treasure hunters even arrive by 5am to spot the best finds.
Wear comfortable shoes
You could easily walk 15 to 20 km in a day. Comfortable, well-worn shoes are essential.
Bring a rucksack
Take a light rucksack to carry your finds. Avoid handbags and bulky bags. A small trolley is handy for larger items.
Prepare your cash
Bring small notes and coins. Most sellers only accept cash. ATMs are often overwhelmed during the event.
Explore the side streets
The best deals are often found in the smaller streets, away from the main thoroughfares. The Vieux-Lille and Wazemmes areas are full of treasures.
Try the moules-frites
It is THE tradition. Set aside time to enjoy mussels and chips at one of the many restaurants. The queues are all part of the experience!
Stay hydrated
It can still be warm in September. Bring a water bottle and use the free drinking water points. Avoid alcohol in the heat.
Plan your route
Check the Braderie map before coming. Identify the areas that interest you: antiques in Vieux-Lille, vintage clothes in Wazemmes, bric-a-brac on Rue de Béthune.
